EDUCATION

FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY

Florida International University (FIU) is Miami’s first and only public research university offering Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees. In 2011, MBF created the Miami Bayside Foundation Scholarship Endowment at FIU to support minority students residing in the City of Miami and interested in entrepreneurship. That same year, it gifted $100,000 to the First Generation Scholarship Fund, matched by the State of Florida to create a $200,000 total gift to be used over 10 years.

In April 2013, MBF presented a $200,000 gift to FIU’s College of Business to create its first MBA scholarship endowment, the Miami Bayside Foundation MBA Scholarship Endowment. The endowment benefits City of Miami residents enrolled in FIU’s MBA programs at FIU Downtown on Brickell.

In 2014, MBF awarded its first gift in support of FIU’s Golden Scholars program. The program is an intensive, alternative, residential admissions program which serves as an obtainable gateway for underrepresented, first generation student populations who may not meet the general criteria for undergraduate admissions. It also ensures that these students graduate, through continuous monitoring and mentoring. MBF has awarded $800,000 to this program.

During 2020, MBF awarded 107 scholarships to FIU students for a total of $220,550.

“The MBF scholarship is the first scholarship that I have been awarded, such an amazing feeling while in the transition to college. While I did receive the scholarship money, I found that the recognition from another organization was much more rewarding because it gave me courage and confidence that I will achieve great things during my time in college. I was able to pay for the books required for my first and second semesters with the MBF scholarship, and I had the mindset that I could tackle the obstacles in my path. I am thankful for the push that the MBF committee gave me at the start of my college career, and I will do my best to not let their efforts go to waste!

That way, I could focus solely on my education and begining my career path. Anyone would be beyond lucky to receive this scholarship, and I am truly blessed to have been one of the recipients.”

The MBF Scholarship has helped me in more ways than I could have expected. Entering college amidst a pandemic and troubling times changed many things, especially the tuition for online classes; this scholarship meant that I would not have to stress about how to pay my tuition for at least one semester. This allowed me to focus on academics and set a good foundation as a first year in college. I am eternally gratefully for the opportunity!”

“The Miami Bayside Foundation has immensely facilitated in paving a way for me to concentrate at my next level in life at Bethune Cookman University. The scholarship off-set other costs that were not handled by other funds. I am extremely grateful for what the Miami Bayside foundation stands for and the monetary donations they contribute to students who seek to take their education to the next level such as myself.  MBF has been a blessing especially with the COVID-19 standing in the way of funds the scholarship really has paved the way for me to be more comfortable in my successes financially and academically in the 2020-2021 academic year. I am doing very well with my academics and will continue to do so. I am truly thankful to have been chosen for this scholarship and will continue to not disappoint.”
